The SHARE Community Forum and Fundraiser is being held in April, during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and will serve as a safe forum for survivors to tell their stories through narrative and other creative forms of expression. Authors, poets, and community advocates are also invited to participate in the forum. In addition to the forum, there will be a silent auction, food and refreshments, informative booths, and live music. Last year all of the proceeds raised went to benefit the Portland Women’s Crisis Line and support the important services they provide to survivors and our community (pwcl.org). SHARE is in the process of deciding where this years proceds will go.
The event will be ASL interpreted, with culturally specific services for the deaf community, promoting increased access for survivors who are deaf and heard of hearing. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about the importance of healthy community response to sexual violence, drawing attention to the perils ensuing when survivors are silenced in their experiences. Please join us on April 30th in taking a firm stance against sexual violence, shifting the victim blaming practice to a dialogue of strength and compassion. |
